A Little Library Of Banned Books

After reading about some of the books that have been banned over recent years we decided to start our own little library of banned/challenged books. With the new administration coming into power, I wouldn't doubt that some states will ban a few of the titles below (and many others)  - completely.

Our little collection of challenged/banned books so far (no particular order):

- Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall

- The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

- The Awakening by Kate Chopin

- The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

- The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger

- Go Ask Alice by Anonymous

- The Iron Heel by Jack London

- Dune by Frank Herbert

- Lord Of The Rings  by J.R.R. Tolkien

- Alice's Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

- Cell by Stephen King - (some info regarding the bans on King's books).

- Black House by Stephen King

- The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie (banned in India, Iran and throughout the Middle East while also causing a big kerfuffle here in the U.S. It has not been banned in the U.S.)

Books on my to-get list:

- Borderlands/ La Frontera: The New Mestiza by Gloria AnzaldĂșa

- 1984 by George Orwell (the most banned book in the country)

- I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

- The Devil's Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea

This is a living list... Let me know if you have any books that should be added (it seems there are so many!)

(Note: The books above that direct to Nowhere Bookshop located in San Antonio, Texas is intentional. Jenny Lawson, the owner, openly supports LGBTQIA+ rights, equality, and love in a state that will most likely become even more hostile in the coming years. When possible, we order all of our books from Jenny if we're unable to purchase them here at a local bookstore.)

  1. Audrey bought a Little Free Library, too. She forgot to order the post, but we'll set it up when that arrives. She's started buying the books, similar concept as yours.
