Trump Can Fuck Off And Other Notes

Honestly, this isn't really going to be edited or polished but none of the posts have been...

Right now, my emotions feel all over the place and while I was hopeful over a week ago, I was also feeling dread. A notion of being trapped. Oscillating between having faith in the system and yet, knowing full well that it was possible for Trump to be re-elected. The difficult pill to swallow is that he won the popular vote (so far) not just electoral votes. We're in the year 2024 but it doesn't seem like it.

Is half the country racist; overtly so?

Authorities are investigating racist text messages sent to young African Americans (NPR)

Is half this country truly willing to go back, back 100+ years?  We've seen this happen with Roe v. Wade being overturned - do not discount this happening with any other "law" that hasn't been codified. Today, The House will be voting on H.R. 9495 and if passed through the House and Senate it could be detrimental for any non-profit organization that is interpreted as helping "terrorists" (AKA any group dissenting against the Trump Administration).

I'm scared.

I'm tired.

Here are a few things I'll be doing to help combat some of the helplessness I'm feeling:

  • Volunteer. It's something almost anyone can do: Look within your community and volunteers. Non-profits will most likely be affected the most over the next four years, but they need help doing The Work. (Food banks, public libraries, public schools, etc.)

  • Email your State Representatives. And, as much as you can, communicate to them how you feel about certain laws/issues being voted on. Find your reps here.

  • KEEP. CREATING. Make your zines, photograph/video what you're seeing. Document. Document. Document.

  • Cultivate community. Wherever that is for you. Your neighbors, your friends, the local farm down the street. Find your people and work together.
Also, know when to shut off the noise. Some of that noise you're reading or hearing is important, but much of it is to help create chaos. It's what Trump and his administration thrive on. Take care of yourself. Drink a glass of water. Rest. Love.
